Police in Kakamega are holding a 28-year-old woman from Nyayo Tea Zone estate who allegedly poisoned her two children after a domestic row with her husband.

The children aged two and five respectively are admitted to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital.

A nine-month-old baby was rescued by the father before he consumed the poison.

The irate woman also set ten bags of maize in her house ablaze after she suspected her husband of having an extra-marital affair when he delayed to return home in the evening.

WRANGLES

Neighbours said the family has been experiencing wrangles for some time.

Two weeks ago, the woman had destroyed the wall of their house when the husband failed to return home.

“Yesterday, we heard noises from the home and rushed to see what was happening. We found two children lying unconscious. We forced them to drink raw milk after the husband informed us that they had been poisoned,” said a neighbour, Ms Violet Kavetsa.

The husband, Mr Henry Litonde, said he had spent the evening in a funeral meeting at his sister’s home.

Kakamega County Police Commander Johana Tonui said they had arrested the woman and that she will be arraigned in court after investigations to ascertain what transpired.

Mr Tonui said one of the children was in critical condition.

“We received information that a woman had poisoned her children and we have arrested her,” said Mr Tonui.
