Shamberere student killer detained for 10 days

A student at the Shamberere Technical Training Institute in Kakamega North Sub-County was on Wednesday arraigned for the murder of his fellow student on Monday night after a confrontation in a suspected love triangle.

Mr Denis Mwangu is accused of stabbing Denis Mainde to death at the institution after an altercation over a girlfriend.

Police sought the Kakamega court to be allowed to detain Mr Mwangu for 10 days to allow investigations and a post mortem examination be concluded.

The suspect will also undergo psychiatric test to determine whether he is fit for trial.

Mr Mwangu had accused Mainde of snatching his girlfriend and stabbed him in the chest severally.

He was rushed to Malava hospital where he succumbed.

The incident sparked chaos at the institution after Mainde's friends, who are also National Youth Service trainees, set upon the attacker.

Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi ordered the accused detained for 10 days at Kabaras Police Station.

The case will be mentioned on June 28.

ASSAULT

In the same court, a 31-year-old woman has been charged with splashing hot water and burning her neighbour’s one-year-old daughter after a quarrel.

Consolata Ayomba denied committing the offence on June 8 at Muranda village in Kakamega East Sub-County.

Ms Ayomba was also charged with assaulting the minor’s mother on the same day.

Magistrate Malesi ordered the accused detained at Kakamega Police Station pending a pre-bail and social background report from the probation officer.

The case will be mentioned on July 8.
