Police have launched investigations into the torching of 12 buses and a lorry all belonging to a bus company that operates between Thika and Mombasa.

The vehicles belonging to Chania Special Travellers Sacco were reduced to ashes inside their garage located at Kenyatta Road along Thika highway on Saturday.

The owner of the workshop Mr Joseph Kamau, who led detectives into the garage after the inferno was put off by Kiambu County fire brigade, said they were yet to identify the cause of the fire.

"I received a call at around 2:30 am informing me that the garage was on fire. We called for help and by the time I was arriving at the garage at around 3am efforts to put off the fire were ongoing," he said.

“I am calling upon the police to get to the bottom of this matter so that we can establish the exact cause of the incident," added Kamau.

The garage's caretaker said the fire broke out as he slept.

“I was woken up by a loud bang before I realised that the garage was on fire. At least 12 buses and other property were reduced to ashes by the fire whose cause is yet to be determined,” he said.

The caretaker pleaded with police and insurance officers to speed up investigations. No arrests have been made so far.
