Mariakani Sub-County Hospital Nurse in charge, Ms Gertrude Mbeyu says Ms Makena sustained 27 percent burns and is responding well to treatment.

“When she came, her body was swollen. She had serious burns and she suffered shock which we are trying to manage. She is currently out of danger. We are managing the burns and we hope she will be able to speak very soon,” said Ms Mbeyu.

LOVERS’ DISPUTE

Mr Makori and Ms Makena are said to have dated for over a year before breaking up due to wrangles.

After the separation, she went to live with her sister in Miracle Estate, Mariakani.

Ms Makena reported that on October 6, Mr Makori came to her sister's house and started to hurl insults at her and threatened her. He demanded that she picks her belongings at his house before he sets them on fire.

Ms Makena said she went to Mr Makori's house where he attacked her.

Ms Frida Kanario, her sister, said since she was admitted, Ms Makena has not been able to speak or eat.

Kaloleni Sub-County Police Commander Kennedy Osando said the suspect was arrested immediately he presented himself at the police station.

“We took him to [Mariakani] court on holding charges until the lady gets well, that’s when we will know the charges to prefer against him,” said Mr Osando.
