Kirinyaga students to benefit from bursary fund

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has launched a Sh70 million bursary fund for needy students.

While launching project at Kerugoya Catholic Church on Thursday, Governor Waiguru said Sh40 million has already been distributed to the 20 wards while Sh30 million will be pumped into the kitty in the next financial year.

"I have instructed the County Education Executive Secretary to look at most deserving cases so that money goes to the right beneficiaries," she said at Mwea.

Ms Waiguru said the programme is in line with her pledge to revive the education sector and ensure 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school and university.

She announced that disbursement committees, comprising individuals from the county assembly and Executive, had been formed at ward levels.

"Schools have opened and we want to support our students to be in school," she said.

The regional boss urged leaders in the county to cooperate with her to foster development.
