Kirinyaga County has embarked on construction of at least 217km of access and feeder roads to improve transport infrastructure.

The Transport executive, Peter Karugumi, said the move is to improve the plight of farmers who find it difficult to move produce to local markets because of impassable roads.

Mr Karugumi was speaking on Saturday when he inspected ongoing grading of Mburi-Mbiri road in Gichugu to murram status.

"The programme will minimise road accidents," said Mr Karugumi.

Mr Karugumi said the grading of roads to murram status has been hampered by ongoing rains.
