Residents of Kimicha village in Kirinyaga were Tuesday thrown into mourning after a primary school boy was found dead in the area.

The 14-year-old pupil was found hanging from a tree in the morning hours.

Kirinyaga County police boss Leah Kithei said police have opened investigation into the matter.

The boy's school bag and sandals were found near his body.

As the report of the incident spread across the area, residents rushed to the scene to have a glimpse.

Reverend Peter Kimotho said he learnt the death of the minor with great shock.

"I was at home when I was informed of the sad incident. It is unfortunate we have lost a bright boy," said Mr Kimotho.
