Governor Waiguru shops for better rice farming ideas

Kirinyaga County is banking on dry rice cultivation to increase production.

Governor Anne Waiguru, who is touring Italy, said she is exploring better farming methods.

In a statement, Ms Waiguru said she met Italian investors who have shown interest in developing a better rice variety.

“We hope to double the annual production and reduce costs,” she said.

Dry farming allows farmers to get good yields even without water.

She said the pilot project would involve 300 to 500 acres.
