Public health officers in Kisii on Thursday arrested eight men selling expired soft drink.

The soft drink was packaged in Coca-Cola branded bottles.

Kisii Town Public Health Officer Sylvia Kerubo said that the more than 3,500 bottles had already passed their sell-by date by two days.

"Their move to sell expired drinks may have been deliberate as they were selling two plastic bottled sodas of 300 ml at Sh50," Ms Kerubo said.

In addition, the officer said members of the public became suspicions after finding impurities in the sodas despite being sealed.

She said they had been trailing the group for one week after they were tipped off by residents.

"This is against the public health act and exposes people to health danger. They are in police custody at Kisii police station and will be arraigned on Monday," Ms Kerubo said.
