Four charged with possession of fake money amounting to Sh38m

Four men from Gonsaria village in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County were on Thursday arraigned in court for being in possession of fake money amounting to Sh38,376,200.

They appeared before resident magistrate Julius Mutai. Three of them: Mr David Barongo, Mr Haron Onduro and Mr Danvas Bisera denied the charges and were released on a bond of Sh400,000 and surety of a similar amount or Sh200,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on October 17 and hearing is set for January 24 next year.

The fourth accused, Mr Herbat Akuma, pleaded guilty and will appear in court on Tuesday next week when the prosecution will present the evidence gathered before then court makes its ruling.

Police boss Japhet Mwirichia said the four were nabbed following a tip-off from locals.

He urged residents to be on a lookout for people who are out printing fake money saying they should volunteer information on suspicious characters.
