Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has decried rise of insecurity in Kisii County, saying the crime level in the region is intolerable.

While putting security officers in the county on notice, Dr Matiang’i warned that action would be taken against laxity.

“I am not happy with what is happening in Kisii. Here in Nyamira, officers have done a commendable job and we no longer have issues of cattle rustling. The officers in Kisii have not done a satisfactory job,” he said while on a visit in West Mugirango, Nyamira County.

GUARDS KILLED

Dr Matiang’i took issue with how police handled an incident where two guards were recently shot dead by robbers at Nyabigege Township in South Mugirango.

During the incident, angry residents later pursued two of the vehicles that were being used by the robbers and managed to burn one. The residents said police had done little to curb crime.

In another incident, three guards were killed in similar circumstances at Suneka town.

INVESTIGATION

The gangsters made away with motor vehicle spare parts and dozens of computers during the raid.

Still in Suneka, police are accused of delay in following up a case where a female pastor was kidnapped, murdered and her body dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Awendo, Migori County.

“Perpetrators of such heinous crimes will not be spared. We will come for you,” Dr Matiang’i warned.
