IEBC to hold ward by-elections in four counties in October

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will hold by-elections in four Wards in Kisii, Tana River, Turkana and Kajiado Counties on October 26, 2016.

A statement from the commission the by-elections will be held in Nyacheki (Kisii County), Mosiro (Kajiado County), Sala (Tana River County), and Kalokol Ward (Turkana County).

According to Mr Andrew Limo, the commission’s communication and public affairs manager, aspirants wishing to contest as independent candidates should submit their symbols by September 5, 2016.

“Political parties wishing to participate in the by-elections must finalise their nominations (party primaries) and determine any intra-party disputes arising from party nominations by the 11th September, 2016,” said Mr Limo.

He said that the submission of the list and details of candidates nominated by political party and independent candidates will be done on September 19, 2016.

The commission has further set September 26 and 27 as the dates when aspirants will deliver their nomination papers to their respective returning officers.

The campaign period, the statement went on, will start on September 26 and end on October 24.
