Innocent Sokoro, the main suspect in the murder of his girlfriend Maureen Monchari in Kenyenya in Kisii County, has gone into hiding.

Sokoro disappeared days after the Nation published a story on the mysterious death of Ms Monchari, or Moh, as her friends fondly called her.

His Facebook page has also been deleted.

Ms Monchari’s decomposing body was found in her kitchen on January 3, nine days after she went missing. She is believed to have been killed on December 25, 2018.

SUICIDE NOTE

A suicide note was found next to her body. However, it was later discovered that the letter had been written by her killer in a cover-up attempt.

Post-mortem results revealed that the woman had died of strangulation. Mr Sokoro was among the people interrogated by the police in connection with the death of his girlfriend.

Samples collected at the crime scene are still undergoing forensic tests to determine the cause of Ms Monchari’s death, according to Kenyenya OCPD Isaac Thuranira.

ASSAULTED

Friends who spoke to the Nation said that the two were in a violent relationship that began in 2015. Attempts to separate them always failed as Ms Monchari always went back to him despite being physically assaulted on several occasions by the man.

Police in Kisii are yet to arrest any suspects in connection to the murder.
