Two workers have died after boulders at a private quarry fell on them in Omwacha, Bonchari in Kisii County.

They were confirmed as Mr Daniel Okero, 38 and Mr Douglas Ratemo, also 38.

They were among three workers who were excavating stones Monday morning at the site when a boulder hanging precariously on the roof of the quarry came tumbling on their heads as they crushed gravel, killing them on the spot.

Villagers said the two reported to the work at the site at 7.30am and had barely worked for an hour when the tragedy occurred.

Gesonso OCPD Beatrice Nduku said they found the two dead when they arrived at the scene.

The bodies were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, said Ms Nduku, adding that they had launched investigations into the incident.

"We will undertake further investigations into the issue," the OCPD told reporters at the scene.
