The family of a 22-year-old man Munawar Abdalla who is in hospital after he was allegedly assaulted by his relatives in Kisumu has petitioned the Director of Public Prosecutions to intervene in the matter.

Mr Abdalla’s aunt, Ms Munirah Khadija, claimed her nephew was attacked when he visited his uncle, Kisumu businessman Abdallah Saad, in Tom Mboya estate on October 6. “Saad together with his wife Shadia Farouk and cousin Abdulkadhir Naji attacked Munawar,” said Ms Khadija, adding that the matter was reported to Kondele police station.

Mr Saad’s son, who declined to be named, denied the claims, saying his father and other relatives “were framed”. “This is a domestic issue that should not be blown out of proportion by the media,” he told Nation at Kondele police station.

Ms Khadija, however, said despite family disputes, the attack was not justified, terming the attack “attempted murder".

“We first took him to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was attended to and referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where he is currently recuperating but still in a coma,” she said.

She appealed to DPP Noordin Haji to ensure justice for Mr Abdalla, an orphan. “I call upon the DPP to help us because Saad is well off and has been bragging that nothing can be done to him. He says he is unshakable despite the attack," claimed the aunt.

On Friday, Mr Saad and Mr Naji were arrested, but later released on bond.

Kondele police boss Henry Simiyu said investigations had been launched into the matter.

Police are however yet to arrest the third suspect Ms Farouk.
