Four inmates escape from Kibos prison

Four capital offenders have escaped from Kibos Main Prison in Kisumu County.

Kisumu County Police Commander Titus Yoma and his Administration Police counterpart Joseph Keitany said the escapees used a hacksaw to cut grills on their cell before escaping.

The suspects have been identified as Douglas Onyancha and Idd Salim Sifuna, who were serving life sentences for robbery-with-violence offences.

Another inmate, Kennedy Wesonga, was jailed for life for defilement while Kenneth Lekesho was serving 20 years' imprisonment, also for defilement.

Mr Keitany said the inmates escaped at 3am on Friday morning.

“We have since launched investigations into the matter,” he said.

Mr Yoma said police were pursuing the inmates.
