Kwale County is staring at a crisis as job seekers outnumber available positions by far.

This is after the county public service board recently advertised 40 vacancies for county askaris and received over 1,000 applications.

Chairman of the board, Mr Kassim Riga, assured the applicants that the recruitment will be done in a fair and transparent manner.

He added that they will give an equal opportunity to all applicants regardless of the number of those interested in the job.

"As a county government we have done our best to advertise for the positions so that those interested can apply and try their luck. We are assuring all the applicants that the slots will be shared equally," he said.

Mr Riga noted that the board has come up with strategies that will ensure the 40 positions will be shared equally among all the wards in the county.

"We have put measures to ensure each of the 20 wards in the county gets two job positions," he said.

He dismissed claims of discrimination in the recruitment.

"While the task at hand is overwhelming, we can be assured of getting the best candidates from the applicants without any favours to individuals," he said.
