Police in Kwale County have seized 40 kilogrammes of bhang in a sack and another 200 rolls with an estimated street value of Sh200,000.

Matuga OCPD Joel Chesire said officers manning a roadblock at Magandia on Tuesday night along the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway nabbed the consignment after two people riding on a motorcycle refused to stop for inspection.

Mr Chesire suspected that bhang was being transported to Likoni from Tanzania through the Lunga Lunga border.

"Our officers manning the roadblock tried to stop the motorcyclist for inspection but the two managed to escape and left behind the sack and the rolls of bhang," he said.

He said most of the bhang in the county is smuggled from other places.

Mr Chesire warned those smuggling drugs into the county, saying their days are numbered.

"Your days are numbered and we will not allow smugglers to ruin the lives of young people especially the school-going children who are on holiday," he said.

He added that police are hunting for the owner of the drugs.
