The Lamu County government has pledged to ensure all county workers posted to hardship areas are transferred from time to time.

Speaking at the Lamu King Fahad County Hospital as he distributed appointment letters to newly employed medical staff including nurses, clinical officers and lab technicians over the weekend, Governor Fahim Twaha said all staff posted to hardship areas such as Basuba in Boni Forest, Kiunga, Ishakani, Mkokoni, Kiwayu, Pandanguo, and parts of Witu, will be rotated from time to time.

Mr Twaha, who said no county staff would be favoured, asked the new employees to work hard to ensure that the county’s development agenda is achieved.

FREQUENT TRANSFERS

“We will be making frequent rotations, maybe after three months or so especially for county staff posted to hardship areas. It won’t be good for people to work only in comfort zones as others work in hardship areas like Basuba and Kiunga. I will ensure equity by ensuring that everyone tastes the life in hardship areas,” said Mr Twaha.

Meanwhile, the county government has promised to build modern houses for their staff.

Governor Twaha said the county is already in the process of acquiring land for the project.

“In order for you to deliver services to wananchi, you need to have a comfortable place to live in. The county government has initiated plans to construct modern staff quarters. The houses will be close to your places of work to enable you report to work on time,” said Mr Twaha.

FEEDER ROADS

The governor said they will also improve all feeder roads to public institutions like schools and hospitals within Lamu in the next five years.

He called on the county workers to work hard and ensure that the county delivers quality services to the county residents.

He noted that the county had set aside Sh20 million to train medical staff.

He said the county will ensure that all health facilities and dispensaries are fully equipped with drugs and all relevant staff.
