Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha has nominated Mr John Mburu Kimani for the position of county secretary.

The Lamu County government had advertised the position in early April and called on all interested individuals to submit their applications.

Mr Mburu had earlier been been proposed for the position of chief officer for Budgeting.

He will now have to go through vetting by the Lamu County Assembly before he is finally approved for the position.

His name has already been forwarded to the county assembly for the vetting.

“Honourable Speaker Abdu Kassim Ahmed has today read a communication from the chair that His Excellency the Governor has nominated Mr John Mburu Kimani for the position of Lamu County Secretary and Head of Public Service. The nominee will be vetted by the committee on Appointments,” read a statement from the Lamu assembly’s Directorate of Communications and Public Affairs.

The position was previously held by Siyat Osman Ibrahim before Ms Joyce Murimi was appointed in acting capacity, confirmed and later dropped in late February this year.

Since then, the position has been held by Mr Julius Okindo in acting capacity.

Since he took over, Mr Okindo has managed to initiate a number of changes, notably putting up control measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilisation of county resources.

The county secretary is the head of the Public Service Board and is required to provide guidance and directions to the board.

He is also answerable to the governor.
