The Lamu County Assembly on Thursday approved the nomination of two ministers and five chief officers.

Ward representatives approved nominations of Dr Anne Gathoni and Mr Paul Kamau Thairu as Health and Agriculture ministers respectively.

They were nominated after Governor Fahim Twaha sacked Mr Raphael Munyua and Ms Florence Ndung’u as Health and Agriculture ministers last month.

The chief officers who were approved are: Dr  Abubakar Badawy (Medical Services), Ms Farida Abdullahi Hassan (Budgeting), Ms Fatma Said Abdalla (Agriculture), Mr Kuria Joseph Ng’ang’a (Youth Affairs) and Mr Said Mohamed Bwanamkuu (Health).

But the Assembly rejected Finance nominee, Ms Aisha Muchile.

All the new nominees were vetted by the County Assembly on April 23 this year.

The approvals came not long after the County Assembly received a reprieve allowing it to continue with the vetting of some chief officers whose clearance had been barred by a court order.
