Search continues for missing Lamu student

The search for Lamu Polytechnic student who went missing in the Indian Ocean has resumed after it was called off on Friday evening following hours of diving in the ocean.

The first year student Mr Juma Mohamed, 23, was in a group of about 30 students who had gone for a swim at Shella Beach in Lamu at around 10am before he was reported missing.

Lamu West OCPD Juma Londo told the Nation that the search team has not yet found the student.
“Search operation continues at Shella at the moment. We have the marine police and Kenya Navy who are conducting the search. The county rescue team is also on the way to join us here in search for the body of the student which has not resurfaced so far.,” said Mr Londo.

The incident comes just a month after two fishermen died after their boat capsized at Manda-Maweni area on June 2.
