Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has announced free education at all of the county's 39 polytechnics.
Dr Mutua said on Tuesday that tuition will be catered for by the county government with funding from the World Bank and other development partners.
During a press conference at his office, the governor said the move will see youths equipped with skills for the job market.
"We have from today waved fees and all associated payments for all Machakos residents who seek education in all our county polytechnics," said Dr Mutua.
He encouraged enrolment to increase changes of employment.
"My government has sourced funds from the World Bank and other development partners and also committed its own budget to provide free day polytechnic education, "he said.
He did not disclose the amount of money the county received for the programme.
The governor said Machakos is in the process of opening four more polytechnics in various wards.
On higher education, Dr Mutua said bursaries worth Sh50 million were awarded to more than 4,000 students across the county.
Those for secondary school students are being processed, he said, adding the allocation was of Sh80 million.
