New Machakos Catholic bishop set to be installed next month

The new Catholic Church bishop for Machakos Diocese will be installed in August this year.

Bishop Norman King'oo who was introduced to priests and church leaders in Machakos on Monday by the Archbishop of Nyeri Anthony Muheria said they had made a suggestion to Pope Francis who is expected to confirm the date.

"We have suggested August 25th and are waiting for confirmation from the Father Pope Francis because that decision is made by the Pope," said Bishop King'oo.

The bishop, who has served in the Bungoma Diocese for the last 19 years, said he was happy to serve in Machakos where he was born, adding he will lead in consultation with other church leaders.

Archbishop Muheria, who is also the acting Apostolic Administrator of Machakos Diocese said he was confident of Bishop King'oo's leadership given his many years of service.

"He has tremendous experience and so in Machakos we are blessed," said Muheria.

Bishop King'oo was appointed to head Machakos Diocese by the Pope on June 23 this year.
