Hundreds of mourners Saturday attended the burial ceremony of Prof Stephen Nzuve, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi who was shot by thugs at his home in Kyakatulu Village, Machakos County.
Leaders who attended the burial demanded action from the government on the rising incidents of crime in the country.
Prof Nzuve was shot dead by gangsters who forced their way into his compound as he drove in last week.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Nairobi Prof Peter Mbithi described the late Prof Nzuve as a patriotic Kenyan who served the university with a lot of dedication and commitment.
Former Land Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu, who attended the burial, said she had learnt of Prof Nzuve’s untimely death with shock and sorrow.
She described him as a distinguished citizen who was patriotic, selfless and committed leader who dedicated his time to bring development in the country.

The burial ceremony was presided by over by Fr Patrick Mutunga of Tala Central Catholic Church.
Mourners broke down in tears as they grieved over the death of the late professor who was also the Associate Dean at the School of Business, University of Nairobi.
Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, Machakos County Woman Representative Susan Musyoka and Tala Ward MCA Alex Kamitu also attended the burial.
