A woman in Matungulu Sub-county, Machakos County, is crying for justice following the suspected poisoning of her son.

Ms Josephine Mwikali on Thursday said her son Derrick Mwendwa, 24, went out on September 9 at around 5pm, but later while she was cooking supper at around 8pm, she heard him screaming in his bed.

She went to check on him and found him vomiting. On inquiry, Mr Mwendwa said he had been poisoned at a club in Tala Town, then he collapsed.

‘’I took him to Kangundo Level Four Hospital where he was admitted and a few hours later he died while receiving treatment. I reported the incident at the police post in Tala Town,’’ she said.

A postmortem conducted at Kenyatta University Hospital  on September 11 showed that Mr Mwendwa suffered abdominal injuries and internal bleeding.

Ms Mwikali said her son had just started doing casual jobs in Nairobi, where he had been for about two months as he waited to join college next year.

‘’His death was a blow to me because he was my only source of hope for a better future,’’ she said.

The woman added that police recorded some information but no one had been or arraigned for her  son’s death.

A weeping Ms Mwikali  called on detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Machakos to investigate the circumstances that led to the sudden death of her son and ensure that justice is served by bringing the culprit to book.
