Four killed in Marsabit ethnic clashes

Four people have died in an ethnic attack in Shurr village, Marsabit County.
North Horr MP Chachu Ganya said the Saturday morning violence targeted a community that was attacked last month.
Mr Chachu said the weapons used in the attack were sophisticated and should not be in the hands of civilians.
The attack claimed the lives of three people belonging to the community in Shurr and one of the assailants.
“We hope action will be taken immediately to help the people get justice,” said Mr Chachu.
Bubisa chief Wako Mamo warned that clashes between two communities in the area is ongoing and could lead more injuries and deaths if security is not increased.
“The attackers surrounded the village and blocked the Jaldesa-Shurr road to stop security personnel from getting into the village,” said Mr Mamo.
The attack comes one month after the same two communities clashed over land issues in Oronderi village.
Last week, during a visit in Marsabit, the Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet promised locals of police action overt the Oronderi attack.
Previously, Mr Boinnet had ordered the arrest of legislators and politicians steering the clashes, but police are yet to complete investigations and arrest suspects.
