Body of missing Marsabit officer found dangling from a tree

A decomposing body of a police officer who went missing on November 18, 2019 was on Friday found hanging from a tree at Araftiris in Sabare area North Horr, Marsabit County.

North Horr Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Abdigaran said herders reported having seen the body dangling from a tree on Buluk road in Araftiris area.

The body was reported by the area Gabbra Community Elder Guyo Tete to Dukana Police Station on November 21, 2019.

The officers who were dispatched to the area positively identified the body as that of a police constable attached to the Dukana Border Patrol Unit.

A bag and clothes suspected to belong to the officer were found scattered a few metres from the scene.

He said that the process of ferrying the body from the scene to North Horr and finally to Marsabit Town was hampered by foul weather.

The sub-county police commander suspected the officer might have committed suicide. The body was moved to Marsabit Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem. He said that the officer was a resident of Mandera County.  

Mr Abdigaran appealed with the public to desist from any speculations and give the investigative agencies ample time to unravel the cause of the officer’s death.
