Kenya National Union of Teachers has demanded for the transfer of non-local teachers from Marsabit County over insecurity

Marsabit branch Secretary Lufle Gambare asked the Teachers Service Commission to relocate non-local teachers from the county after six teachers at Chalbi Boys High School were attacked and injured by students.

Speaking in Marsabit town on Tuesday, Mr Gambare condemned the Monday incident.

“We condemn the incident in the strongest terms possible, we have not heard of anything like this in the history of Marsabit. We want all of the non-local teachers including primary schools teachers transferred from the region,” said Mr Gambare.

The secretary at the same time said the students may have been used by interested parties in the local community. He questioned why the local community was yet to condemn the incident or even show support for the teachers.

“We are sure the students could not have acted on their own capacity and we know there are people who used them. We want all involved to be brought to face the law,” said Mr Gambare.
