Governors in court over Wambora sacking

  • A Senate committee ignored the court order and summoned Mr Wambora to appear before the team which ruled that he was guilty of three out of the five charges levelled by the MCAs.

Governors have filed an application at the High Court seeking to block the Senate gazette of Martin Wambora's impeachment.

The case is set for hearing on Monday afternoon.

Mr Wambora had sought a court order on February 3 to stop the Senate from commencing impeachment proceedings against him. (READ: Court stops Senate debate on Wambora)

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga then formed a three-judge bench to hear the case.

However, last week, a Senate committee ignored the court order and summoned Mr Wambora to appear before the team which ruled that he was guilty of three out of the five charges levelled by the MCAs. (READ: History as first governor sacked)

His deputy, Ms Dorothy Nditi, was found not guilty and has since assumed office as the new Governor of Embu County.

The Court is expected to interpret the law regarding standards that are required before a governor can be impeached.
