6 die as pick-up and Probox collide at Giaki junction in Meru

Six people died on the spot when a pick-up collided with a Toyota Probox at Giaki junction on Meru- Mikinduri road on Monday night.

Nine others were seriously injured in the 9pm smash-up.

The crash happened when a Toyota Hilux pick-up, which was heading towards Meru, attempted to overtake a lorry but collided head-on with a probox that was coming from the opposite direction.

The probox had 13 passengers and six of them, including the driver, died.

The seven who sustained injuries were rushed to Meru Level Five hospital together with the two people who were in the Toyota Hilux.

According to police sources, the two are in unstable condition.

Bodies of the deceased were also taken to Meru Level Five Hospital mortuary.

The two vehicles were extensively damaged and were towed to Meru Police Station.
