Njuri Ncheke elders have dismissed claims that they endorsed Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki as Meru spokesman.

The elders said they were not consulted over the elevation of Prof Kindiki and that it was done by a few individuals for their selfish gain.

They said the rivalry between Prof Kindiki and Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi is uncalled for.

“We love all our leaders, both in Tharaka and Meru counties.

“Kindiki is not an enemy to Njuri Ncheke but he is being misled by our former leaders,” said Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders Vice-Chairman Kaimba Mangaru.

He spoke during a meeting of the elders at their shrine in Nchiiru on Saturday.

They met in a bid to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for visiting Meru County last month and launching various projects.

Meru County Assembly Majority Leader Ayub Bundi, who is also the council’s deputy secretary-general, said: “We are grateful to the President for the roads and fish ponds being constructed by the Jubilee government in our county.”
