A woman is fighting for her life at the Meru Level Five Hospital after she was raped and stabbed several times in Kioru village, Meru county.

The woman said to be in her late 40’s was walking home from a local entertainment spot when she was attacked on Monday night.

Mr James Mwambia, the bar manager said residents found the woman lying in a pool of blood in a banana plantation.

“She appeared to have been sexually assaulted,” said Mr Mwambia. He said the woman was taken to hospital by the police.

Area residents suspect the woman might have been attacked elsewhere and then abandoned in the banana plantation. There were no signs of struggle at the spot.

Mr Kiogora, a Nyumba Kumi initiative official warned women against walking alone at night.

Elsewhere, a 47-year old man has had his testicles surgically removed after they were crushed by unknown assailants at Kithaku market, two weeks ago. Imenti Central police boss John Tarus said the tea farmer was accosted by two young men as he walked home after a night out. The victim was also robbed of the Sh200 he had.

Mr Tarus said the man is undergoing treatment at the Meru Level Five hospital where he is responding well to the treatment.

Area resident Cliff Gikunda said crime rate in Kithaku and its environs had increased. He said over 10 cows and 40 sheep stolen had been stolen in the area.
