Mixed reactions greeted release of Migori County Governor Okoth Obado from a month-long custody.

Some Migori town residents welcomed the High Court decision while others appeared disinterested in the matter.

"Let him come back and trigger service delivery which has stalled as he awaits the conclusion of the murder case. We are happy that he is out of custody," said Mrs Nancy Atieno, Obado supporter.

She, however, said there was nothing to celebrate because his two aides — Mr Caspal Obiero and Michael Oyamo — were denied bail.

"I wish all of them were freed at the same time," said Ms Atieno.

But a Jua Kali artisan, Mr Cliff Onyango, said the court decision is inconsequential to him.

"My life depends on the work of my hands...that court process will not add food on my table," he said.

Many Migori County government offices were deserted as employees followed Justice Jessy Lessit's ruling on television in local restaurants and hotels.

On Tuesday, some supporters and some county staff travelled to Nairobi ahead of the bail ruling.
