Police in Migori have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 500kg of bhang worth at least Sh5m at Bwembu in Suna West sub-County.

Migori Administration Police Commandant Julius Mukanda said drugs were hidden in a maize farm.

"Today in the morning, police officers were tipped off by members of the public that someone was suspected of ferrying bhang. The officers swung into action and got hold of the illegal consignment," said Mr Mukanda.

Mr Mukanda, said the suspect, Mr Duncan Ochieng, was found manning the drugs which were set to be transported to an unknown destination.

Police suspect the marijuana was transported from Tanzania through the Isebania border.

The suspect has been detained at Migori Police Station awaiting arraignment on Monday.
