Police in Uriri, Migori County, have launched a manhunt for a man who stabbed and killed a 17-year-old girl at Rapogi trading centre.

Uriri Sub-county Police Commander Peter Njoroge said the Class Seven pupil Rairi Primary School in Rongo Sub-county, was stabbed several times in the chest and neck on Saturday night by an assailant, who later escaped on foot.

Mr Njoroge noted that a security guard manning Queens Court, a local pub in Rapogi, informed the police that he saw a man chase the girl before stabbing her around 11pm.

Efforts to resuscitate the girl were unsuccessful, as she had lost a lot of blood, according to Mr Njoroge, who rushed to the scene of attack.

He said that no arrests have been made, "but we will soon get to the bottom of the matter. It is just a matter of time before the suspect is arrested,” he said.

Rapogi residents have blamed the police for not conducting patrols in the area.

“The Saturday incident is a clear indication of an upsurge of insecurity in this area. We don’t understand why police officers don’t conduct patrols,” said Duncan Ochieng’, a resident of the village said.

The girl’s body was moved to Rap Com Hospital mortuary in Awendo sub county.
