MCA charged with incitement out on Sh2m bond

Shimo La Tewa Ward Representative Samuel Ndago Gambo has been charged with incitement to violence in the burning and demolition of residential houses in Mtwapa on Tuesday.
Mr Gambo has been charged alongside four boda-boda operators after the fracas that resulted in the shooting of at least three people, including a minor.
The MCA appeared in a Shanzu court on Wednesday with his alleged accomplices - Mr Fikirini Koi, Mr Majuri Ngala, Mr Joseph Baraka and Mr Branton Mbua.
Police say the five incited squatters to evict non-locals that they claimed were illegally living on their ancestral land.
The court was told that, following the incitement, a house belonging to Mr Patrick Njenga was reduced to ashes.
The suspects are also charged with resisting arrest. The boda-boda operators were additionally charged with obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties by throwing stones and glass bottles at them.
The suspects pleaded not guilty. The magistrate slapped the MCA with a Sh2 million bond with one surety of the same amount or Sh400,000 cash bail. The others were granted a Sh100,000 bond each or cash bail of Sh20,000.
The case will be mentioned on June 27.
