Two women deny trafficking Sh2.8 million heroin in Kisauni

Two women were charged in Mombasa on Thursday with trafficking about one kilogram of heroin worth Sh2.8 million.
Salima Bakari Ali, 62, and 40-year-old Zainab Abdi Farah were arraigned following their arrests on Tuesday.
State Counsel Shakwila Ayekha said they were arrested at Mlaleo in Kisauni sub-county, following a raid by anti-narcotics officers from Nairobi.
The charge sheet states that the two and accomplices trafficked by storing 925.9 grams of heroin.
They denied committing the crime before Shanzu Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda.
CASH
Ms Ali and Ms Farah were also found with Sh98,500 but the cash was not presented in court on Thursday.
During their arrests, Nyali Sub-County Police Commander Simon Thirikwa said they believed they made the money from their illegal business.
The accused, through their lawyers Jared Magolo and Wycliffe Makasembo, urged the court to consider their clients’ ages and grant them lenient bond terms.
They also asked to be supplied with witness statements and other documentary evidence the state would rely on.
The women were released on Sh200,000 cash bail or Sh500,000 bond each ahead of the hearing on May 16.
