Five rescued from collapsed Mombasa building

Five people who were trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Kaloleni, Mombasa, on Thursday have been rescued.

County Commissioner Evans Achoki said the injured have been taken to Coast General Provincial Hospital.

"We would like to urge the public to be calm. Everything is under control. We are doing all we can to ensure human safety," Mr Achoki said.

Efforts are still on to rescue one person still trapped. The operation is being led by the Kenya Red Cross, Mombasa County Inspectorate, firefighters and the police.

Others present at the scene were county police commander Johnston Ipara and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir.
