Four suspects arrested after accountant shot dead

Police in Mombasa are holding four suspects in connection to the killing of an accountant during a botched robbery.

The AN Issack Hardware staff was shot dead on Monday shot after suspected robbers attacked a vehicle transporting the company's Sh2 million to the bank.

The accountant, identified as Mr Rashid Mwasiraha, succumbed to his injuries at Al Farouq Hospital.

The robbers did not steal the Sh2 million as police officers who were on patrol got wind of their mission and chased them away.

They shot the man and in the air as they fled, according to County Police Commander Johnston Ipara.

Mr Ipara said a toy pistol, a machete and six phones believed to have been stolen were recovered from the suspects.

"We are still hunting for other people we believe took part in the robbery," he said, adding the suspects will be arraigned on Thursday.

The accountant was with his boss when the attack happened.

He was laid to rest in Matuga, Kwale County.
