  • Zanzibar’s Abdulnassir Mohamed Kombo came second after he collected 98 marks and walked away with Arcopal dinner set and Sh50,000.

  • Third and fourth places went to Kenyans Idris Mohamed and Mohamed Juma who finished with 97 and 96 points respectively.

  • Mohamed was awarded Sh40,000 and Arcopal dinner set with Juma getting Sh30,000. Niyitunga Zaidi of Burudi was fifth - Sh20,000.

Kenyan Bishar Farah emerged the winner of the 16th edition of the East African Quran Memorisation Competition.

Farah won the main 30 books category with 100 marks and was awarded a Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca package, Sh60,000 and Luminarc dinner set in a ceremony 

held at Makadara grounds in Mombasa on Sunday, June 3, 2018.

Third and fourth places went to Kenyans Idris Mohamed and Mohamed Juma who finished with 97 and 96 points respectively.

Mohamed was awarded Sh40,000 and Arcopal dinner set with Juma getting Sh30,000. Niyitunga Zaidi of Burudi was fifth with Sh20,000.

In women’s category, Naima Abdulqadir Hussein of Markaz Al-Itqaan was the winner and awarded with Sh30,000 plus two Umra tickets to Mecca worth Sh171,700.

She was followed by Rahma Abdulmajid of Markaz Assalam who got Sh25,000 while Aisha Abdulmajid of Markaz Al-Itqaan was third and awarded Sh20,000.

The event is organised by Muslim Mercy Youth whose secretary-general Said Abeid thanked over 500 participants who took part all the way form the elimination rounds. He also thanked participants from Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda and Burundi.

“This year’s competition attracted a record of competitors and was very competitive from the elimination rounds to the finals. I comment the judges who worked tirelessly to select the winners,” said Abeid.
