Asil Hussein Subir, 20, was murdered and his body found dumped at Manyimbo cemetery in Tudor, Mombasa County, on Monday.

It is alleged that he was killed because he refused to marry a girl he impregnated.

His father says the killers will not go unpunished, and so do police, who are pursuing leads.

STABBED

Asil was last seen outside their house in Majengo chewing miraa with a friend identified as Abubakar Ali.

His father Hussein Subir said, “At around 7pm [on Sunday], they came and asked for Sh500 to buy miraa. I gave them the money and told Asil not to stay up late. I then went to sleep."

Mr Subir said he received a phone call at around 7am on Monday and was informed that his only son had been killed and his body dumped.

The body had several stab wounds in the chest and stomach.

AGREEMENT

Mr Subir said his son had been in a relationship with a woman he identified as Rahma and that this had resulted in misunderstandings between the families.

“I knew they would kill him but I assure them that they will feel the same pain I am feeling. I know those who have done this but let me not mention them,” Mr Subir said while fighting back tears.

“They did this yet I told them my son would marry their daughter. We had reached an agreement ... I know all this is because of a woman. But did my son really deserve to die?” he said as he left the scene.

Sources from Asil's family revealed to the Nation that the girl's family demanded a marriage but that he got into a relationship with another woman.

“The woman’s family was bitter that the deceased chased their daughter away despite agreeing that they would get married,” one said.

Police investigating the matter said Asil was attacked in 2018 by a member of Ms Rahma's family. His father confirmed this.

A police source said, "The man was stabbed and taken to Mewa Hospital late last year. He had come from the United Arab Emirates. We asked them to follow up on the matter after treatment but they went silent."

THE PROBE

On Monday, Mombasa Urban police boss Eliud Monari said preliminary investigations indicated Asil was killed somewhere else and the body dumped at the cemetery.

Mr Monari told the Nation that detectives were pursuing leads on the claims by his father.

“We will work with his relatives in pursuing that angle and [look into the] relationship he had. We are sure we will succeed,” he said, adding they were searching for Mr Hussein's best friend, Mr Ali, as he had gone missing and had been unreachable by phone.

“The information we have is that the friend is nowhere to be found. We have launched a manhunt ... we want him to tell us what he knows about this murder,” said Mr Monari.

The body was taken to the morgue Coast General Provincial Hospital ahead of the burial in line with Islamic rituals.
