Mombasa students get vocational training sponsorship

The county government of Mombasa will pay 70 percent fees for over 400 students in the region’s vocational training institutions.

Consequently, school leavers in the county who scored D+ and below in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, have been asked to apply.

“This is to ensure the youth in the county get education that will impart required skills to help them fit in the job market,” county communications director Richard Chacha said.

In an advertisement published in the local dailies, the county government directed Mombasa residents, to enroll in the programme.

“The county government of Mombasa will be recruiting youths to take various technical and vocational courses in their city polytechnics from January 7 to January 11, 2019.  KCPE graduates and drop outs are also encouraged to register, they should carry their original certificates and National ID cards,” the advert said.

Technical and vocational institutions in Mombasa include, Kenya Coast Polytechnic, Likoni and Maunguja training institutes.

Courses that will be offered to the selected students include Mechanical Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Seafaring, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

Other courses are: Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Electrician, Electrical and Electronic, Building Technology, Fashion and Design, Food and Beverage, Cosmetology (Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy) and ICT.
