A court in Murang'a has issued a warrant of arrest against two MCAs who failed to appear over chaos that rocked the County Assembly of Muranga on January 16 this year.

Police were ordered to arrest Kimorori Wempa Ward MCA Amos Murigi and his Gitugi counterpart Samuel Kihurunjo who failed to appear for mentioning of their case.

The two MCAs were charged alongside five others: Jacinta Ng’ang’a (Township) Stanley Mburu (Makuyu) Wambui Njoki (Nominated) Beth Waithira (Nominated) and Peter Mburu (Kagunduini) with  creating disturbance in the office of the majority leader and trying to forcibly eject him out of his office.

Principal Magistrate Antony Mwichigi issued the warrants of arrest on Monday and slated October 8 as mention date.

The MCAs are also facing another charge for creating disturbance in the office of the clerk Mr Chris Kinyanjui on November 27 with an aim of forcefully ejecting him out of office.

The suspects were charged in court on January 18 but denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Margret Wachira and were released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

The prosecution has been applying for the arrest warrants since some of the ward reps have been skipping court.

On January 18, the prosecution sought arrest warrants against Mr Kihurunjo, Mr Mburu, Ms Njoki, and Ms Waithira (Nominated Members) after prosecutor Solomon Njeru told the court that the accused were yet to be apprehended for dodging the police.

But Mr Murigi told the Nation that he failed to attend the court since he was sick and had an appointment with a doctor.
