An MP from Murang'a County wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider incorporating former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth in his government.

Gatanga MP Joseph Nduati Ngugi said the former legislator’s track record when he was MP speaks volumes and that his is able to steer the President’s Big Four agenda.

The MP said Mr Kenneth was rated the best performing MP during his tenure in terms of CDF expenditure and that his exemplary leadership skills have remained unutilized since his bid to be Kenya’s President failed.

GRAFT WAR

Speaking Sunday at Kiunyu PCEA Church during a fundraiser where Mr Kenneth was the chief guest, Mr Ngugi lauded the President’s efforts in fighting corruption, adding that the entry of Mr Kenneth would give him a major boost.

"I know the President is looking for efficient leaders to work with in the implementation of the Big Four agenda four and Kenneth is a leader who can be entrusted due to his past development record," Mr Nduati said.

He noted that Mr Kenneth has never been incriminated in corruption scandals that have tainted the image of many public figures despite him serving in various capacities in the country.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS

On her, part Murang’a Woman Representative Wanjiru Chege, who at the function, said Mr Kenneth possesses leadership skills that should be emulated by the current legislators.

Mr Kenneth is among the leaders touted for the deputy president’s post in the 2022 elections and has been touring various parts of the country.

The Murang’a woman rep said that she supports Mr Kenneth’s tours of every part of the country.

“Go rounds anywhere in the country without fear and we are behind you,” Ms Chege said.

SUCCESSION POLITICS

However Mr Kenneth avoided the debate on whether he is angling himself for the deputy president’s post and instead urged leaders to tone down the 2022 succession politics and prioritise on taking development to the grassroots.

He urged Kenyans to support the President in the fight against corruption, saying it is the major obstacle to development.

The former MP asked the President to include the fight against corruption in his Big Four agenda and called for heavy penalties on leaders found guilty of corruption.

“If corruption is effectively and efficiently eradicated, the government will have sufficient funds to streamline service delivery and development and to fight the vice. The corrupt should even be denied bail,” Mr Kenneth said.

At the same time, he castigated governors over their calls for immunity against prosecution, terming it outrageous.

Mr Kenneth said anybody charged with corruption should not be given bond and should remain in remand until their cases are concluded.
