Murang'a land official in court over Sh2,000 bribe

A member of the Kigumo Lands Control Board, who was arrested last month for allegedly receiving a bribe of Sh2,000, has pleaded not guilty at the Murang'a Law Courts.

Naomi Wanjiku Njuguna was charged with two counts of corruption that on August 12 in Kigumo town, she demanded and received a bribe of Sh2,000 from Francis Macharia Mwangi to facilitate him with the consent and approval for land subdivision.

The accused, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Margret Wachira on Tuesday, denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh60,000 until November 11 when the hearing of the case will begin.

ELECTRONIC EVIDENCE

The chief magistrate set October 4 as the date for pretrial hearing after Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Sebastian Mutinda said the prosecution intends to produce electronic evidence to prove their case.

“We intend to produce electronic evidence into the matter and we require a pretrial hearing, Mr Mutinda told the court.

The suspect was arrested by the detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on August 12 on allegations that she received the bribe on behalf of the seven members of the board for them to facilitate the said approval.
