Police and administrators on Sunday raided a brewer of traditional beer at Gumba on Thika Road as the war on illicit brew continued.

The owner of Tropical Wells Breweries, according to police, went underground immediately after the raid.

"When we arrived, we found the place deserted and we had to force our way inside," area Assistant Chief Asman Owiti, who led the raid, told the Nation.

However, the Nation established that the brewer had been licenced by the Nairobi County Government.

The company makes Tropical, Jamba, Waka and Bee beers, which are packed in bottles.

Aside from the bottles, there were 21 containers of 3,000 litre capacity, which were full of the brew.

The police and administrators were at a loss of how to dispose of the brew, and said they were waiting for area MP John Njoroge to give them directions.
