Police have gunned down a man suspected to have been behind the theft of Sh72 million from a Standard Chartered Bank ATM in Nairobi West in 2019.

According to the Directorate of Criminal investigations, the suspect, Wycliff Vincent Oduor alias Vinii, was killed in a shootout with police officers in Kayole.

Oduor was out on a Sh500,000 bond after he was charged over the ATM heist.

“The mastermind in Sh72m Nairobi West ATM heist last year, Wycliff Vincent Oduor was today gunned down in a fierce shootout between a three-man gang of robbery with violence suspects and detectives responding to a distress call from the public at Kayole Junction in Nairobi,” the DCI said Tuesday.

The DCI said the other two suspects who escaped on a motorbike are being pursued.
