At least 30 families have been rendered homeless after fire gutted residential houses in Kongoi, Nakuru County on Monday night.

Fire razed 25 residential houses and shops at the Kamuingi trading centre in Kuresoi North Constituency.

Victims said the fire, whose cause has not yet been established, started at 11pm in the flat that has shops on the front side and residential houses in the back.

The assistant chief George Mayoyo said efforts by the locals to put out the inferno were futile.

The affected residents have since been accommodated by their neighbours after braving the cold night.

The inferno gutted down the whole building.
