Nakuru County govt to spend millions to expand hospitals

The Nakuru County government has embarked on an elaborate plan of improving health facilities.

Millions of shillings have been spent on the expansion and improvement of the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.

The project is also aimed at increasing bed capacity in other county hospitals among them Bondeni Maternity, Molo Sub-County Hospital and the Elburgon Nyayo Hospital.

Nakuru County Executive for Health Dr Mungai Kabii said PGH could be the second health facility where the president would soon launch new equipment after Machakos.

Dr Kabii added that Nakuru County had the biggest dialysis centre at PGH after Kenyatta National Hospital adding that it was also the cheapest.

AFFORDABLE DIALYSIS

“At PGH, patients pay Sh5,500 per session while those with an NHIF card pay Sh3,000,” he said.

“Currently, the dialysis unit serves between 36 and 40 patients in a day but the new machine will able to serve 20 patients at a go,” he added.

Dr Kabii said PGH would get a magnetic resonance imaging machine, computerised tomographic scan machine, radiology machine and a state-of-the-art theatre with an anti-bacterial floor.

PGH will also get an ultra-modern laboratory for all tests and a medical supplies warehouse which will be constructed at a cost of Sh15 million.

The facility’s mortuary capacity will also be upgraded.

Dr Kabii said Rhonda Maternity and Langa Langa Health Centre were also being up-graded and would soon have surgical theatres.

He pointed out that Bondeni maternity which has since been made a wing of the provincial general hospital would receive a boost of Sh40 million for expansion.

More than eight health projects valued at over Sh44 million are under way in Njoro.
